Application Guidelines * Information for the transfer entrance examination

Requirements for Applicants

  • Applicants must have completed 12 years of schooling outside Japan or be deemed to have completed the equivalent of such education by March 2018 or are specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to be in conformance with such; applicants must intend to enter or stay in Japan for the purpose of receiving education at the university; and applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of April 1, 2018.
  • Applicants must have achieved a score of 200 points or higher in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) or have achieved N2 level or higher in the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). Alternatively, applicants may be recommended by the principal of the Japanese language school in which they are enrolled as having Japanese language ability equivalent to or greater than the above. (Overseas applicants need to present either their Japanese language test scores of EJU or the certificates of JLPT.)
    Also note that applicants who are enrolled in Japanese language schools or vocational schools while residing in Japan must have an attendance rate of 80% or higher (calculated on an hourly basis).
  • Applicants must have sufficient assets, a scholarship, or other means of support to meet their expenses while living in Japan, or must have another person who is willing to pay these expenses.

Transfer Entrance Examination Application Guidelines

Qualifications for Application

Applicants must fall under one of the following categories: International students must also satisfy the requirements for international student applications.

  • An individual who either has graduated or is expected to graduate by March 2018, from a junior college or a technical college;
  • An individual who either has currently been registered or is expected to remain registered as a student at another university for at least two years, who has either acquired or is expected to acquire 62 academic credits by March 2018;
  • An individual who either has completed or is expected to complete a program of study at a vocational school that meets the standards stipulated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology by March 2018;
  • An individual who either has graduated or is expected to graduate from a university by March 2018;
  • An individual who has been conferred an academic degree or a bachelor’s degree according to the stipulations provided by Section 4 under Article 104 of the School Education Law (Law No. 26 of 1947);
  • An individual who either has completed or is expected to complete a course of academic education with a duration of at least 14 years overseas (including the period of academic education given by ordinary course of study in Japan) by March 2018;
  • An individual who, while living in Japan, either has completed or is expected to complete a course of academic education with a duration of at least 14 years, given through a distance education program provided by a foreign school, by March 2018;
  • An individual who, while living in Japan, either has completed or is expected to complete a program of study at a foreign junior college (this applies only to an individual who is considered to have completed 14 years of academic education given through a course of study at such foreign school) at an educational facility recognized to satisfy the requirements of school education programs in the country of origin of such school, although not according to the stipulations specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, by March 2018.

International Student Application Requirements

Individuals who currently reside overseas must satisfy conditions (2) and (3) described below, those who currently reside in Japan and are currently registered with a Japanese language school must satisfy conditions (1) to (3), those who are currently registered with a vocational school must satisfy conditions (1) and (3), and those who are currently registered with a university in Japan must satisfy condition (3).

Furthermore, the subject of study already completed elsewhere must conform to the intended department for the program of study at the University.

  • An individual who has an attendance rate at a Japanese language school or a vocational school of at least 80% (calculated based on hours of attendance), as a general rule.
  • Applicants must have achieved a score of 200 points or higher in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) or have achieved N2 level or higher in the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). Alternatively, applicants may be recommended by the principal of the Japanese language school in which they are enrolled as having Japanese language ability equivalent to or greater than the above. (Overseas applicants need to present either their Japanese language test scores of EJU or the certificates of JLPT.)

⚫ There is no need to submit a health certificate. You are, however, required to have a health examination after admission to the University.

Entrance Examination Fee

  • The entrance examination fee is 35,000 yen.
  • Enter the required details in the transfer application form and arrange for the bank transfer from a financial institution nearby. Be sure to tell the bank teller that the fund transfer must be by “telegraphic transfer.” Ensure that the bank has stamped in the “Handling Bank Revenue Stamp” area on the transfer application form when the bank transfer arrangement has been completed.
    * Do not initiate a bank transfer from an automated teller machine (ATM).

Contact the International Affairs Office by phone or drop by in person while taking a tour of the University for inquiries related to the submission of application documents.

Admission Process from Application to Completion

1. Acquire Application Guidelines and Application Documents Details of all matters concerning examinations are included.
Using the above URL, please enter the required information and then download the application form.
2. Prepare Application Documents Verify details of the Application Documents described in the Application Guidelines and ensure that plenty of time is available to complete the process.
Furthermore, entries must be made with care, with attention to reading the entry instructions.
3. Make a deposit to pay for the Entrance Examination Fee Transfer the funds to deposit the Entrance Examination Fee into the specified bank account. Attach the proof of deposit on Application Form I.
4. File Application Documents Prepare an A4 size envelope to hold the documents, and attach the Application Envelope Address Mailing Label on the front side of the envelope. Enclose all necessary documents in the Application Envelope and post the envelope as “Kan-i Kakitome” or “Sokutatsu yubin,” which means “Registered Mail” or “Express Special Delivery” (must arrive at the University before the application deadline).
5. Entrance Examination Admission Ticket Arrives When the Examination Card arrives, please confirm your examination number (overseas applicants will receive their Examination Card on the day of the examination).
6. Day of Examination The examination is given at Shobi University.
The Entrance Examination Admission Ticket must be brought as it is required to take the examination.
7. Examination results Announced Examination results will be announced via the university website.
8. Complete Application Procedure for Admission Successful candidates should download the admission guidelines, transfer the student fees, and submit the admission documents by the given deadline.

An application for the Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status will be issued once the admission procedure has been completed.

* The International Affairs Office of the University will take full responsibility to make a proxy application on behalf of the admitted students with the Immigration Bureau.

Obtaining the “Student” Residence Status

International students whose admission to the university has been approved can obtain the “Student” residence status. To do so, students living outside Japan should prepare the necessary documents to apply for a “Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status.” After that, the university will submit a proxy application to the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau on the student’s behalf. Please enter Japan after receiving the “Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status” and obtaining a visa at the consular division of the Japanese Embassy in your home country. In addition to university staff, applications can be made by the applicant’s relatives who reside in Japan or guarantors in Japan.

* The reduction and exemption of tuition by 30% will depend on the outcome of screening, which are based on issues such as academic performance from the previous term. The tuition for the first semester in the amount prescribed for each department must be paid at the time the admission procedure is completed.
