Given below is the admission information for enrollment in April 2017.

Application Guidelines * Information for the transfer entrance examination

Requirements for Applicants

  • An individual who has completed 12 years of school education overseas as a general rule or an individual who is deemed by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to have the equivalent level of education, who is either entering the country for the purpose of receiving education at a university or is a resident in the country, who will be at least 18 years of age as of April 01, 2017.
  • An individual who has scored at least 200 points for the Japanese subject on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, or has achieved at least an N2 rating on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Other than the above, an individual who is registered with a Japanese language school and who has been recommended by the principal of the school, who has recognized the individual to have reached at least the same level of proficiency in the Japanese language (individuals applying for admission directly from overseas are required to include a score card as listed in No. 8 of “Application documents” to be filed).
    Furthermore, an individual residing in Japan and is registered at a Japanese language school or a vocational school must have an attendance record of at least 80% (calculated based on hours of attendance) as a general rule.
  • An individual who has sufficient funding to defray (make payment) for living expenses for the stay during the period of residence in Japan, or otherwise is provided for by a scholarship or other means of sponsorship, or have someone who will be defraying living expenses on behalf of the individual.

*1: In the event a student registered at a Japanese language school is unable to submit a score card, a recommendation document may be submitted instead, according to Section 2 of the Qualifications for Application. Although the submission of a score card is optional for students who are registered at a vocational school, if submitted, it will be considered for admission as a part of the document screening.

Transfer Entrance Examination Application Guidelines

Qualifications for Application

Applicants must fall under one of the following categories: International students must also satisfy the requirements for international student applications.

  • An individual who either has graduated or is expected to graduate by March 2017, from a junior college or a technical college;
  • An individual who either has currently been registered or is expected to remain registered as a student at another university for at least two years, who has either acquired or is expected to acquire 62 academic credits by March 2017;
  • An individual who either has completed or is expected to complete a program of study at a vocational school that meets the standards stipulated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology by March 2017;
  • An individual who either has graduated or is expected to graduate from a university by March 2017;
  • An individual who has been conferred an academic degree or a bachelor’s degree according to the stipulations provided by Section 4 under Article 104 of the School Education Law (Law No. 26 of 1947);
  • An individual who either has completed or is expected to complete a course of academic education with a duration of at least 14 years overseas (including the period of academic education given by ordinary course of study in Japan) by March 2017;
  • An individual who, while living in Japan, either has completed or is expected to complete a course of academic education with a duration of at least 14 years, given through a distance education program provided by a foreign school, by March 2017;
  • An individual who, while living in Japan, either has completed or is expected to complete a program of study at a foreign junior college (this applies only to an individual who is considered to have completed 14 years of academic education given through a course of study at such foreign school) at an educational facility recognized to satisfy the requirements of school education programs in the country of origin of such school, although not according to the stipulations specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, by March 2017.

International Student Application Requirements

Individuals who currently reside overseas must satisfy conditions (2) and (3) described below, those who currently reside in Japan and are currently registered with a Japanese language school must satisfy conditions (1) to (3), those who are currently registered with a vocational school must satisfy conditions (1) and (3), and those who are currently registered with a university in Japan must satisfy condition (3).

Furthermore, the subject of study already completed elsewhere must conform to the intended department for the program of study at the University.

  • An individual who has an attendance rate at a Japanese language school or a vocational school of at least 80% (calculated based on hours of attendance), as a general rule.
  • An individual who has scored at least 200 points for the Japanese subject of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students or has achieved at least an N2 rating for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. ⚫ There is no need to submit a health certificate. You are, however, required to have a health examination after admission to the University.
In the event a serious illness is detected as a result of the health examination and such medical condition will make it difficult for you to continue with student life at the University, you may be subject to such academic provisions as leave of absence and the like.

Entrance Examination Fee

  • The entrance examination fee is 35,000 yen.
  • Enter the required details in the transfer application form and arrange for the bank transfer from a financial institution nearby. Be sure to tell the bank teller that the fund transfer must be by “telegraphic transfer.” Ensure that the bank has stamped in the “Handling Bank Revenue Stamp” area on the transfer application form when the bank transfer arrangement has been completed.
    * Do not initiate a bank transfer from an automated teller machine (ATM).

Procedures from Application to Completion of the Admission Process

1. Acquire Application Guidelines and Application Documents All details concerning the entrance examination are described.
Download the document from the URL described above.
2. Prepare Application Documents Verify details of the Application Documents described in the Application Guidelines and ensure that plenty of time is available to complete the process.
Furthermore, entries must be made with care, with attention to reading the entry instructions.
3. Make a deposit to pay for the Entrance Examination Fee Transfer the funds to deposit the Entrance Examination Fee into the specified bank account. Attach the proof of deposit on Application Form I.
4. File Application Documents Prepare an A4 size envelope to hold the documents, and attach the Application Envelope Address Mailing Label on the front side of the envelope. Enclose all necessary documents in the Application Envelope and post the envelope as “Kan-i Kakitome” or “Sokutatsu yubin,” which means “Registered Mail” or “Special Delivery” (must arrive at the University before the application deadline).
5. Entrance Examination Admission Ticket Arrives Once the Entrance Examination Admission Ticket arrives, verify the Entrance Examination Number.
6. Day of Examination The examination is given at Shobi University.
The Entrance Examination Admission Ticket must be brought as it is required to take the examination.
7. Examination results Announced The announcement of examination results is conducted by letters sent out by post.
* In the event an applicant who applied directly from overseas is staying in Japan at that time, the applicant will either have the letter posted to the location of the accommodation or the applicant may visit the University to receive the letter.
* There will be no announcements made on the internet.
8. Complete Application Procedure for Admission Deposit the Student Fees and send in the Procedure Documents.
Refer to the Admission Procedure Guidelines sent to applicants who passed the entrance examination for details on the procedure for admission.

An application for the Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status will be issued once the admission procedure has been completed.

* The International Exchange Center of the University will take full responsibility to make a proxy application on behalf of the admitted students with the Immigration Bureau.

Notes on the Acquisition of the “Student” Status of Residence

International students who have been admitted to the University may acquire the Status of Residence “Student.” The International Exchange Center will take full responsibility to make a proxy application on behalf of any individual residing outside Japan to acquire the “Student” Status of Residence, by filing an application for the Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status once all necessary documents for the application have been prepared by the applicant. Once the Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status has been issued, the applicant must obtain a visa from the consulate of Japan in the home country before entering Japan. Individuals other than University employees who may file an application on behalf of the applicant are relatives of the applicant or guarantors who reside in Japan.

* The reduction and exemption of tuition by 30% will depend on the outcome of screening, which are based on issues such as academic performance from the previous term. The tuition for the first semester in the amount prescribed for each department must be paid at the time the admission procedure is completed.
